The Department of Justice states, “The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure.”
Begintoread.com states “2/3 of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare.” It also states these shocking facts:
Literacyprojectfoundation.org says that in the US, 50% of adults can’t read a book written at an 8th grade level, 44 million adults can’t read their children a simple story, and …..“To determine how many prison beds will be needed in future years, some states actually base part of their projection on how well current elementary students are performing on reading tests.”
